"This is very pleasant for me spending the morning in Edinburgh," says David McMillan, the Arbroath boy who began as a factory accountant at Hewlett Packard in Queensferry, and now heads up the UK's biggest financial arm with 15,000 employees, one-fifth of them in Scotland.
"I am normally on the red-eye down to London," he adds.
Still living in Edinburgh's New Town, married to Scottish Water director Shirley, and also managing three boys aged 11 to 13, Mr McMillan joined Aviva nine years ago and now heads up the UK's market-leading general insurance business.
