Flying into confusion

THE fact that ScottishPower has finally decided on the way forward for its impressively expensive £80 million headquarters reminds Agenda of a property-related incident at the Spanish-owned company several years ago.

When it was in the process of choosing Scottish property agents that would represent the company's interests, candidates were flown out to the Madrid offices of parent Iberdrola to make presentations.

Against their expectations, they arrived in these warmer climes to discover they would be communicating by video link-up with a senior Spanish executive. Naturally, this raised one or two eyebrows, but not half as many as when it became clear that the woman in question was operating out of Glasgow for the day. What better advert for sustainability by one of the world's largest players in the renewables industry?
