PLEXUS Holdings, the oil and gas well technology business, has appointed a veteran of the US industry as a non-executive director to help the firm win business from American firms.

Aberdeen-based Plexus said Charles Jones would play a key role on the board as the company looks to roll-out its POS-GRIP wellhead equipment into new geographies.

Chief executive Ben van Bilderbeek said: "Charles' extensive experience and proven track record in the US and Gulf of Mexico oil and gas equipment and services sector will be invaluable to Plexus."

He added: "Charles will provide key strategic direction to the Board in respect of interacting with US oil and gas operators and service companies, industry bodies, and regulators as we work towards identifying ways of offering POS-GRIP to the American market."

Like many Scottish oil services companies, Plexus sees opportunities to win a big international following for technology developed in the North Sea.

Plexus has won business in Africa and Asia in the current year. It recently established a joint venture in Malaysia.

The company said Mr Jones would bring 30 years senior management and board experience, which included establishing and growing highly successful engineered-product companies in the energy sector.

It noted Mr Jones led Houston-based Forum Oilfield Technology through successful mergers with other companies in 2010 to create Forum Energy Technologies. The firm achieved revenues of $1.5 billion and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012.
