ENERGY business SSE has altered the leadership team at its electricity networks businesses, saying it expects that the move ??will help achieve the operational and financial performance that customers and investors are looking to us to achieve over the next eight years??.

The Perth-headquartered company, said it made the changes as the businesses ready themselves for the new electricity distribution price control and the next stage of the programme of large capital investment in electricity transmission.

Colin Nicol has been named managing director for distribution. Part of the company since 2010, his previous role was lead director of generation development.

He will be head SSE??s electricity distribution businesses, reporting to chief executive Alistair Phillips-Davies, as will David Gardner, whose duties as director of transmission remain the same.

Mark Mathieson is leaving the company, having started there in 1988 and getting appointed director of distribution in 2005.

Mr Phillips-Davies said: ??It??s vital that businesses get the level of senior management input that they need, and the scale and complexity of the different challenges in distribution and transmission mean that this is the right time to reshape the leadership team so there is the right focus on what they need to achieve over the next few years.??
