Equitable Life members’ action group accuses Government of delaying tactics

The Government has ensured that no compensation will be paid to Equitable Life victims until well into the next parliament, nine years after the scandal broke, and is “preoccupied with finding new ways to reduce the value of payouts” from the scheme it set up.

The claim, from the 23,000-strong Equitable Members Action Group which has twice won legal victories over the government in the High Court, came yesterday on the first anniversary of the government finally agreeing to set up a restricted payment scheme for compensation.
