Kittie Jones, an Edinburgh-based artist and teacher, switched her cash Isa in 2008 from a high street bank to Triodos.

The Dutch bank only invests in sustainable activities and community or culture projects, and in Scotland those include Out of the Blue, Impact Arts, and Calder Street Studios.

Ms Jones says: "I have an ISA with Triodos because, as an artist, I am keen to support the arts and this is an area that I know Triodos supports."

She adds: "As well as wanting to support my own profession, I try to be a conscious consumer, so I am also very keen to support green energy and organics. The transparency issue, particularly in the current climate, is also very important to me."

Triodos research among Scottish investors found the majority saying they would be concerned if their money was being used to support unethical activities. Two out of five said they would consider opening a 'green Isa' if given a choice. More than a third said they didn't actually know what their financial providers were doing with their money.
