Shaun Davidson from Dunfermline joined the army at 16, serving in Northern Ireland with the King's Own Scottish Borderers, but was medically discharged in 1992 when he was 23.

He found it a hard landing.

He says: "Soldiers are only interested in a few things - somewhere to sleep, something to eat, and at the end of the month getting the money. Everything is done for you."

Davidson, married with three children, struggled to adjust to civilian life and ended up with rent arrears and other debt.

But, since 2006, with help from Poppyscotland, he has put his life back on track.

He says: "I wish I had been given some advice before I left the army. When guys have got a set date for leaving, they need someone with them like MoneyForce so they can deal with things like mortgages."
