United Auctions sold 3260 prime lambs at Stirling on Thursday to a top of £91 per head and 211p per kg to average 150.1p (+3.5p on the week).

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had 5244 prime lambs forward in Longtown. Lambs were averaging 157p per kg for the first three hours of the sale when they were bone dry, but the trade fell away as they started to come into the ring wet. Top prices on the day were £90.80 and 203p, with the final average levelling at 151.4p (+1.4p).

There was also a fine show of 6479 cast sheep with demand strongest for the biggest, heavy ewes and well-fleshed types. There were still a large number of plainer ewes forward that continued to meet with a weak demand. Heavy ewes sold to £126.50 for Texels and averaged £61.97, while light ewes peaked at £69.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £31.95. Cast rams sold to £126.50 for Texels and averaged £62.56.
