BANK of England Deputy Governor Paul Tucker refused to confirm whether he would serve out his term after missing out on the top job to Governor of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney.

Mr Tucker, who has been at the bank since 1980, was the strong favourite to succeed Sir Mervyn King.

Yesterday, he said: "I am the deputy Governor for financial stability. There is a job of work to be done. I am doing it." But he did not say whether he intended to serve out his term to February 2014.
