Linda Scott, who runs Linda Macdonald Jewellery with her husband Matthew Scott, will be exhibiting her designs at the Inhorgenta in Munich, Germany, near the end of February, in front of thousands of trade delegates.

The business currently supplies a number of independent retailers in the UK plus John Lewis department stores.

She said: "We did an export course with Scottish Enterprise earlier this year and Scottish Development International has also been helping us.

"We have been doing well in the UK supplying a number of outlets and generally seeing growth, so we decided the time was right to try to export."

In 2012 the show filled 66,000 square metres of space across six exhibition halls at the Messe München International conference centre and attracted more than 30,000 people from 80 countries.

The Glasgow School of Art graduate, who has been trading under her maiden name since 1997, is hoping to break into the German market first, before looking at other countries.

She said: "Germany looks to be ideal for us. We did a research visit in November and saw some of the shops and departments stores they have.

"The economy there is doing well and there are a lot of women in the right age range.

"Our research also suggests German people like Scottish products, just as people in the UK like to know where things are made."

Earlier this month she was named designer of the year by the British Jewellers Association, which described her work as having "a personal touch and a romantic back story."

Judges said: "It is well-designed, well- made jewellery that is highly commercial and has wide appeal."

Mrs Scott said of the win: "The fact that the vote was open to industry members and the public makes it even more special."

The company makes the products in two small workshops and employs nine staff in Cardross in Argyll and Bute. A tenth is joining next month.

Mrs Scott added: "We are taking on a graduate through the Talent Scotland programme to do business development and marketing."
