Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 250p per kg and an average of 214.6p (-6p on the week), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 235p and levelled at 206.4p (-7p).

Twenty-five prime dairy-bred bullocks averaged 170.5p (-8.2p).

In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 142p and 27 dairy cows levelled at 117p. Eighteen OTM cattle averaged 133p and 5 bulls levelled at 141p.

The firm also sold 2297 prime hoggs to a top of £100 per head and 232.6p per kg to average 175.2p (+6.7p).

The 595 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £129.50 for Texels and £56.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £51.43 (+88p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 24 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 224p on four occasions, and an average of 214.7p, or £1155.13, while 11 prime bullocks peaked at 227p and levelled at 208.1p, or £1193.62. Three bulls sold to 190p and averaged 186.3p, or £1276.47.

In the rough ring 62 beef cows averaged 141.6p and 125 dairy cows levelled at 112.5p. Three bulls averaged 149.3p.

A smaller show of ten dairy cattle was topped by an Ayrshire heifer at £2120 and averaged £1737 (+£40).

Wallets Marts sold 1065 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £83 and 202.6p to average 161.7p. The 421 cast sheep forward sold to a top of £74 for a Suffolk ewe and averaged £42.79.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had 2783 store hoggs, feeding and in-lamb ewes. Store hoggs met an exceptional trade fetching the best prices of the season. United Auctions sold 174 pedigree Charolais bulls at Stirling yesterday to a top of 28,000gns for the overall champion Elgin Glenlivet from RA Milne. The final average for a 78% clearance was £6948, back £606 on the year. The firm also sold 16 pedigree Charolais females to a top of 5000gns and an average of £2618.
