The UK's leading property companies will this week challenge in court the administration of high street retailer Game, claiming a legal loophole deprived them of tens of millions of pounds in rent.

Game called in PwC as administrators just before quarterly rent was due in March 2012, and was sold to an OpCapita-led consortium a week later, enabling the new company to trade rent-free for a quarter.

A consortium of landlords including British Land, Land Securities and Hammerson will test the law in the Court of Appeal.
