THE Glasgow company charged with the task of kitting out the volunteers, technical and security officials, and Queen's Baton Relay baton-bearers for this summer's Commonwealth Games has announced a hike in profits.

Accounts which have just become available from Companies House show that Jacobs and Turner, the company behind the Trespass outdoor clothing brand, raised pre-tax profits to £4.01 million in the year to June 30, 2013, from £2.41m in the prior 12 months.

The family-owned company attributed much of its success in its last financial year to the wet summer of 2012.

Its jump in profits in the 12 months to last June was achieved on the back of a jump in turnover to £75.3m, from £64.9m in the prior financial year.

Jacobs and Turner, which is owned by brothers Afzal and Akmal Khushi and has its headquarters at Kinning Park on the south side of Glasgow, also increased its workforce significantly during the year to June 30.

The accounts show that the average number of people employed by the company during the year to June 30, 2013 was 1135. This was up from 1001 in the prior 12 months.

Afzal and Akmal Khushi were inducted into the Glasgow-based Entrepreneurial Exchange's Hall of Fame in 2010.
