CRAIG Maclellan has been using a zero per cent credit card to cover the cost of tickets for the Commonwealth Games, and for the Billy Connolly show in the autumn.

"There are about eight of us going and it comes down to me being the organiser, so it is better to put it on the credit card and then everyone pays me off."

Mr Maclellan, a senior account executive in Edinburgh for PR agency Porto Novelli, has a Bank of Scotland card with a 15-month interest-free period.

He says: "That's enough, as long as I can get a decent amount of time before I cancel and get another one. I try to live within my means and don't want interest to be building up."

He adds: "I don't think I am the best of customers for the bank as they don't really get any money out of me from interest payments."
