A SMALL Scottish company has been appointed by BP to supply sofware that is intended to help the oil and gas giant get the most out of technology it will use on the giant Clair Ridge development West of Shetland.

Asset Guardian Solutions, based in Livingston, West Lothian, will supply a toolset to improve the performance and security of the software BP and contractors use to control a range of production processes.

The value of the award was not disclosed.

However, it provides further evidence of how investment in new oil and gas fields is creating work for services firms across the UK.

Peter Beales, the business development manager for Asset Guardian Solutions, said the company was delighted to be appointed to work on a project like Clair Ridge.

BP already uses the company's sofware on facilities in Angola, Azerbaijan, Oman, Oklahoma and Alaska.
