THE highest-earning partner at law firm Brodies received a profit share of £522,000 in the year to April 2016, with the figure likely to be significantly higher once a performance-related bonus is applied.

While bonuses for the last financial year had not been finalised at the time the accounts were filed at Companies House and a spokesman said details were not being released at this stage, in the previous financial year a bonus increased the top payment by 79 per cent.

In the year to April 2015 the firm’s highest-earning partner received a pre-bonus profit share of £477,000, with the figure rising to £853,000 when the bonus was applied.

In the year before that the highest-paid member received a profit share of £445,000, with the figure rising by 62 per cent to £721,000 with a bonus.

For the 2015/16 year the firm had a total profit pool of £30.9 million after turnover rose by 12 per cent to £65m.

In a note to the accounts chairman Christine O’Neill said the rise was considered to be a “satisfactory outcome”.

She added that activity in the second half of the year had been impacted by “continued oversupply in the global oil and gas market” as well as uncertainty over what the outcome of the Brexit vote was going to be.

Elsewhere, Dundee firm Blackadders reported rises in both turnover and profit of 15 per cent in the year to March 2016.

Turnover at the firm was up from £10.2m to £11.7m while profit before members’ remuneration and profit shares was up from £2.7m to £3.1m.
