PUDDEBLUB, the butchery firm that made its name at farmers markets, is taking a chance on high street retailing with a store in Kirkcaldy.

The firm will open a shop on the high street of the Fife town on Monday 3 July. This will showcase meat from local farms, breads baked in the area and the products of renowned cheesemonger IJ Mellis.

Owned by the Mitchell farming family, Puddledub decided to take on the store after winning a good response to the pop up outlet the firm ran in Kirkcaldy in April. Owner and co-founder of Puddledub Tom Mitchell said: “Opening the pop up at Easter was a fantastic way to see if there was enough demand locally to bring a butcher shop back to Kirkcaldy High Street. It really exceeded our expectations, which as a local farming business selling our products directly, is a massive boost for us.”

The store opening will result in Puddledub creating two jobs, taking total workforce numbers to 21.

The business has been selling meat from the Mitchell family’s Auchtertool farm at markets across Scotland. It runs a butchery counter at the Dunfermline branch of Dobbies Garden Centres and supplies retailers.

Bill Harvey of Kirkcaldy 4 All business improvement district, said Puddledub’s move might help convince other retailers to try the town.
