C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 36 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 248.2p per kg and an average of 220.7p (-4.3p on the fortnight), while 107 store bullocks peaked at 275.1p and levelled at 232.9p (+8.4p). Eight store bulls sold to 259p and averaged 220.2p (-9.4p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2592 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £104 per head and 222.2p per kg to average 183.9p (-29.3p on the week).
A big show of cast sheep also met an easier trade on the week with 551 heavy ewes selling to £144 for Texels and averaging £80.48, while 452 light ewes peaked at £74.50 for Lleyns and levelled at £48.60.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 28 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 255p and an average of 233.8p (+18.8p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 250p and levelled at 226.7p (-2.3p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 204p and averaged 184p (no comparison).
In the rough ring 65 beef cows sold to 211p and averaged 146p (+2p).
There were also 1802 prime lambs that sold to £116 and 232.9p to average 186p (-26.3p).
A good show of 476 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £111 for Texels and average £90, while light ewes peaked at £89 for Cheviots and levelled at £63.
The firm also sold 14 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 239.5p and an average of 207.5p (+2p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223.5p and levelled at 208.7p (+3.4p). A couple of prime dairy-bred bullocks sold to 178.5p and averaged 177p (no comparison). Fifty-one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 200.3p (-1.5p), while 38 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 188.5p and levelled at 155p (+2p).
In the rough ring 85 beef cows sold to 207.5p and averaged 149.9p (+2p), while 171 dairy cows peaked at 175.5p and levelled at 111.2p (-4.9p). Ten bulls sold to 163.5p and averaged 139.5p (+6.6p).
There were also 2333 prime lambs that sold to £113.80 and 253.2p to average 196.4p (-20.8p).
The 149 heavy ewes forward sold to £127.50 for Suffolks and averaged £76.41, while 9 light ewes peaked at £49.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £44.50.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 13 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 247.1p (+5.1p), while 4 prime beef-bred bullocks peaked at 248p and levelled at 224.6p (-1.4p). Eight prime B&W bullocks sold to 155.5p and averaged 144.8p (-12.2p).
In the rough ring 35 beef cows averaged 135p (no change) and66 dairy cows levelled at 112p (-2p).
The firm also sold 2050 prime lambs to a top of £108.50 and 229.1p to average 186.1 (-26.6p).
A nice show of cast sheep saw 466 heavy ewes sell to £148.50 for Texel and average £71.34, while 228 light ewes peaked at £53.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £38.40.
