C&D AUCTION Marts Ltd sold 65 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of £1135 per head and 237.1p per kg to average 207.2p (-1.8p on the fortnight), while 147 store bullocks peaked at £1,235 and 255p to level at 220.1p (-3.3p). Seven store bulls sold to £830 and 228p to average 215p (+2.1p).
United Auctions had a catalogued entry of 8,026 store lambs and feeding sheep at Stirling yesterday. Top prices and averages for selected breeds: Texels to £74 and averaged £58.28 (-£4.36 on the week); Beltex £70 and £63.19 (-£2.99); Suffolks £66.50 and £61.78 (-£2.99); Mules £60.50 and £56.29 (+£1.92).
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 47 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 272p and an average of 234p (+1p), while 25 prime bullocks peaked at 254p and levelled at 226p (+1p). Three prime bulls sold to 230p and averaged 213p (no change).
In the rough ring 50 beef cows sold to £1,531 and 189p per kg to average 146p (-2p).
There were also 2,707 prime lambs that sold to £96 per head and 247.4p per kg to average 176.6p (-17.2p).
A big show of 1,065 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Texels and average £78, while light ewes peaked at £77 for Cheviots and levelled at £33.
The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 235.5p and an average of 210.1p (-18.5p), while four prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214.5p and levelled at 193.5p (-14p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 184.5p and averaged 176.2p (+4.2p). Sixty-three prime bulls sold to 224.5p and averaged 200.1p (+2.1p), while 62 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 185.5p and levelled at 150.7p (-11.3p).
In the rough ring 105 beef cows sold to 192.5p and averaged 143.1p (+4.3p), while 192 dairy cows peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 116.5p (+10.2p). Fourteen bulls sold to 147.5p and averaged 127.6p (-4.4p).
There were also 2,384 prime lambs that sold to £99 and 248.2p to average 190p (-5.2p).
A modest show of cast sheep saw 176 heavy ewes sell to £103 for Texels and average £70.78, while 58 light ewes peaked at £77.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £43.22.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 260p and an average of 238.5p (-2.4p), while 10 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 213.5p (no comparison). Ten prime, B&W bullocks sold to 158.4p and averaged 152.5p (+8.2p).
In the rough ring 45 beef cows averaged 134p (-1p) and 28 dairy cows levelled at 112p (-3p).
The firm also sold 2723 prime lambs to a top of £108 and 238p to average 181p (-14p).
