A VINTAGE furniture specialist in Fife is celebrating the role played by 15 of its products in new movie Victoria & Abdul.

Cupar-based Scaramanga said the film, which tells the true story of an unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria (Dame Judi Dench) and young clerk Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), was its sixth major movie in only five years.

It added that the British movie had also provided the company’s “largest and most diverse film order yet”.

Scaramanga said that two of its vintage travel trunks, and a range of authentic Indian boxes, tins and leather journals could be seen in the film, which is released in the UK today.

The firm’s latest film role came after it received a call last October from a props buyer for the movie, who was looking for two vintage travel trunks from the right period for a picnic scene being shot in the Scottish Highlands.

Scaramanga said it had been able to dispatch what he wanted the same day. Shortly afterwards, the props buyer called back to purchase some Indian boxes, spice pots, tins and leather journals.

The firm, owned by Carl Morenikeji, has previously enjoyed big screen exposure in The Hobbit, Maleficent, Pan, The Legend of Tarzan, and Dark Shadows.

Scaramanga has also been used as a supplier of vintage props for television shows including Peaky Blinders, Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Big Brother, Jericho, Hollyoaks and 60 Minute Makeover.
