PARTNERS at Glasgow law firm BTO Solicitors earned an average of £166,000 in the last financial year, with the highest-paid partner at the firm taking home over £245,000, writes Margaret Taylor.

In its first set of accounts since converting to a limited liability partnership last year, the firm has revealed that in the year to March 2017 it turned over £18.9 million and made partner profits of £7.8m.

The profits were shared between 47 partners.

While there were no figures from the previous year to compare the numbers to, chairman Alan Borthwick said that the firm had seen “double digit percentage increases in revenue and profit”.

Adding that the firm’s revenue had “increased by 62 per cent over the past five years”, Mr Borthwick said that all four of BTO’s main business divisions – commercial dispute resolution, insurance, private client, and property, corporate and construction – performed well in 2016/17.

Despite the Brexit vote taking place part way through the period under review, Mr Borthwick said it had not had a lasting impact on the firm’s activities.

“We are not complacent and are watchful of this potentially volatile period for the UK and Scottish economies,” he added.
