GORDON & MacPhail, the Elgin-based Scotch whisky distiller and wholesaler, has unveiled a restructured sales division which aims to put its Scotch whisky brands at the heart of its global offer.

The company will integrate the UK market into its global strategy with David King, international sales director, assuming overall responsibility for global sales, following the addition of the UK to his existing worldwide remit.

The firm, which counts Benromach single malt among its brands, said the strategy would help build the global reputation of the company’s range – which includes brands such as Connoisseurs Choice and The MacPhail’s Collection.

Gordon & MacPhail specialises as an independent bottler and marketer of whiskies selected by its team. The company is also a wholesaler, distributing specialist whiskies and other premium spirits.

The restructure comes after the company grew sales by 10.8 per cent to £28.3 million. Its international sales were up by 11.8 per cent to £8.9m and UK sales up 10.4 per cent to £19.4m.

Ewen Mackintosh, managing director, said: “The UK is an important single malt market and this is reflected in the expansion of David’s remit to include the UK as a key element of the company’s global sales strategy. The restructuring is part of our long-term plan to build the reputation of the Gordon & MacPhail [whiskies] in the luxury sector while continuing to invest in marketing and brand building for Benromach.”
