A SCOTTISH housebuilder has pledged to install cabling for electric car charging points in all of is new developments, writes Scott Wright.
Springfield Properties, which floated on the stock market last year, said it is one of the first developers in the UK to make the feature standard in all new-build properties.
The Elgin-based company, which builds private and affordable homes, said it will incorporate seven kilowatt cabling at the most practical point to ensure charging points can be easily installed.
Among the first Springfield developments to receive the infrastructure is the 3,000-home Bertha Park project on the outskirts of Perth. It is close to the A9, along which the Scottish Government plans to install charging points on Scotland’s first “electric highway”.
Springfield chief executive Innes Smith said: “The Scottish Government has pledged that by 2032 all new vehicles sold in this country will be electric but we anticipate that the uptake will increase rapidly long before then. One of our values as a company is to include everything a customer needs in their new home, so with this is mind we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to go electric.
“At Springfield, exploring new ways to protect the environment has been a focus of ours for many years.”
