LAWRIE & Symington Ltd sold 190 heavy cast ewes in Lanark on Monday to a top of £168.50 for a Texel and an average of £80.55, while 321 light/export-type ewes peaked at £107.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £57.62.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 125 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 273.4p per kg and an average of 230.3p (+1.7p on the fortnight), while 163 store bullocks peaked at 287.6p and levelled at 246.7p (+9.1p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 240p per kg and an average of 234.7p.

With weather conditions favourable for field work for the first time in some time, many farmers were busy at home resulting in fewer cattle forward.

In the rough ring 29 beef cows sold to £1,400 per head and 173.9p per kg to average 144.6p, while 84 dairy cows peaked at £1,160 and 156.2p to level at 118.4p. Five bulls averaged 127.6p and 8 clean OTM cattle levelled at 152.1p.

A plainer show of 9 dairy cattle sold to £1,450 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1101.
