Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 272p per kg and an average of 247.6p (+4p on the week), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 250p and levelled at 238p (+5.2p). Ten prime, B&W bullocks sold to 165.5p and averaged 148.5p (-3.1p).

The firm also sold 1374 prime hoggs to a top of £150 per head and 301p per kg to average 237p (-3.8p), while 69 prime lambs peaked at £147 and 342p to level at 296p (-23.4p).

A good show of cast sheep saw 254 heavy ewes sell to £151 for a Texel and average £96.94, while 346 light/export-type ewes peaked at £107 for a Cheviot and levelled at £65.16.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1427.40 per head and 254p per kg to average £1234.64 and 233p.

In the rough ring 39 beef cows sold to £1340 and 185.9p to average 142.7p, while 51 dairy cows peaked at £1110 and 149.3p to level at 115.7p. Seven bulls sold to £1560 and 157.9p to average 129p, while 13 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1220 and 194.6p to level at 164.1p.

There were also 12 dairy cattle forward that sold to £1780 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1191.
