MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 631 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 per head and 223.6p per kg to average 189.4p (-36p on the week), while 152 prime lambs peaked at £134 and 281p to level at 247p (-24p).

The firm also had 506 cast sheep forward when leaner and hill ewes were dearer on the week, while fatter types were less money. Two-hundred-and-eighty-nine heavy ewes sold to £129.50 for Texels and averaged £74.86, while 187 light/export-type ewes peaked at £71.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £56.22.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 48 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 246p per kg and an average of 228p (+3p), while 33 prime bullocks peaked at 247p and levelled at 223p (+1p).

In the rough ring 46 beef cows sold to 185p and averaged 148p (-2p).

There were also 366 prime hoggs that sold to £143 and 234p to average 194p (-26p), while 286 prime lambs peaked at £152 and 312p to level at 273p (-16p).

The 395 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £125 for Texels and average £91, while light ewes peaked at £93 for Blackfaces and levelled at £61.

The firm also sold eight prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 227.5p and an average of 196.4p (+15.9p), while 18 prime bullocks peaked at 234.5p and levelled at 217p (+7.8p). Twenty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 227.5p and averaged 186p (-14.7p), while 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 187.5p and levelled at 161.3p (-1.6p).

In the rough ring 99 beef cows sold to 190.5p and averaged 150.3p, while 94 dairy cows peaked at 159.5p and levelled at 113.7p (-6.9p).

There were also 786 prime hoggs forward that sold to £110 and 240.5p to average 196.6p (-24.1p), while 263 prime lambs peaked at £134.80 and 317p to level at 243.2p (-36.9p).

The 114 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £140 for a Texel and averaged £81.88, while 59 light ewes peaked at £64.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £45.96.
