WALLETS Marts sold 20 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to average £668 per head and 202.1p per kg, while 18 store bullocks levelled at £718 and 222p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 903 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £113 per head and 222.9p per kg to average 208.3p (-10.6p on the week).
Cast sheep met a similar trade to last week with the 227 heavy ewes forward selling to a top of £161 for a Texel and averaging £87.64, while 159 light/export-type ewes peaked at £67.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £53.60.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 34 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 251p and an average of 226p (-3p), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 225p (-9p).
In the rough ring 34 beef cows sold to 177p and averaged 149p (-5p).
There were also 974 prime lambs that sold to £130 and 245p to average 213p (-10p).
The 387 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £105 and light ewes level at £65.50.
The firm also sold 10 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 230.4p and an average of 203.4p (-5.4p), while 14 prime bullocks peaked at 234.5p and levelled at 212.3p (+1.6p). Thirty-four prime, beef-bred bullocks sold to 224.5p and averaged 194.3p (+10.6p), while 38 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 183.5p and levelled at 165p (+7.2p).
In the rough ring 145 beef cows sold to 233.5p and averaged 150.5p (+6.4p), while 237 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 116.8p (-2p). Eight bulls sold to 176.5p and averaged 132p (+11.7p).
There were also 1428 prime lambs that sold to £126.80 and 294.4p to average 215.8p (-17.7p).
A modest show of 85 heavy cast ewes sold to £115.50 for Texels and averaged £84.08, while 56 light ewes peaked at £61.50 for Texels and levelled at £44.90.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 245.8p (-1.3p), while a couple of prime, beef-bred bullocks levelled at 236p (+8p). Two prime, B&W bullocks averaged 141p (-5p).
In the rough ring 31 beef cows averaged 131.2p (+1.2p), and 30 dairy cows levelled at 115.8p 9+0.8p).
There were also 586 prime lambs that sold to £117.50 and 263p to average 208p (-18p).
The 251 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £144.50 for a Texel and averaged £81.40, while 252 light ewes peaked at £70.50 for a Cheviot and levelled at £60.42.
