A GIN brand produced in the Trossachs by a family firm has secured listings in Sainsbury’s for two of its products.

Callander-based McQueen Gin’s Sweet Citrus and Super Premium Dry gins will be sold in the supermarket’s Scottish stores. Dale and Vicky McQueen, who founded the company in 2015, have won a number of awards for their gins, including a double gold at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition for their flagship Super Premium Dry gin.

“It’s great to see something that you are so passionate about begin to come to life on a major scale,” said Vicky McQueen. “We believe our products bring something to the market that isn’t readily available – flavour profiles that are different and intriguing, and a distillation method that ensures the end product is pure and very high in quality. We’re excited to keep giving our customers, new and old, an exciting and adventurous gin experience.’’

Scotland’s gin sector has seen a sharp increase in growth with a record number of gin distilleries emerging and over 50 Scottish gin brands available on the market. In 2016, the Wine & Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) launched its Scottish Gin Trail and last month updated it to reflect the rapid rise in the number of distilleries.

Miles Beale, chief executive of the WSTA, pointed to the Scotland’s central role in the gin boom which had also provided a welcome boost for the local economy, creating jobs and encouraging tourism.
