Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1391.50 per head and 237p per kg to average £1192.63 and 221.4p, while a prime bullock fetched £1264.45 or 209p and a prime bull made £1231.95 or 191p.

In the rough ring 77 beef cows sold to £1290 and 178.6p to average 128.4p, while 86 dairy cows peaked at £910 and 134.5p to level at 98.6p. Eight bulls sold to £1200 and 127.7p to average 96.9p, while 3 clean OTM cattle peaked at £790 and 171.1p to level at 144.9p.

A bigger show of 13 dairy cattle sold to £1820 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1410.

Wallets Marts had 968 prime lambs forward in Castle Douglas yesterday when lambs lacking finish were severely discounted. Top prices on the day were £97 per head and 215.4p per kg with the final averages levelling at £73.98 and 178p (-9.4p).

There was also a larger show of cast sheep forward when 199 heavy ewes sold to £122 for Texels and averaged £64.92, while 100 light/export-type ewes peaked at £58 for Blackfaces and levelled at £38.87.
