RETAIL sales volumes in Scotland grew by a seasonally adjusted 0.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June, official figures show, in contrast to a 2.1% jump in Great Britain as a whole.

Second-quarter retail sales volumes in Scotland were up by 0.5% on the same period of last year. In Great Britain as a whole, retail sales volumes in the second quarter were 2.8% higher than in the same period of 2017.

In terms of value rather than volume, Scottish retail sales rose by 0.5% quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June.

Large retailers in Scotland, with 250 or more employees, achieved a 0.6% quarter-on-quarter rise in sales volumes in the second quarter. Small and medium-sized retailers posted a 1.3% fall in sales volumes.
