C&D AUCTION Marts Ltd sold 86 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 240p per kg and an average of 191p (+7.5p on the fortnight), while 78 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 203.9p (-2.9p). Nineteen store, B&W bullocks sold to 153p and averaged 130p (-2.6p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,474 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £111 per head and 236.2p per kg to average 185.3p (+8.3p on the week).
Another big show of cast sheep saw 458 heavy ewes sell to £152.50 for a Texel and average £89.10, while 410 light/export-type ewes peaked at £68.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £46.10.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 45 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 253p and an average of 223.4p (-15p), while 10 prime bullocks peaked at 229p and levelled at 218.3p (+1.2p).
In the rough ring 30 beef cows sold to 173p and averaged 134p (+1p).
There were also 1,305 prime lambs that sold to £111 and 209p to average 187p (+9p).
The 449 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £110 for Texels and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £49.
The firm also sold six prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 231.5p and an average of 187.8p (-13p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 232.5p and levelled at 213p (+5p). Thirty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 223.5p and averaged 201.8p (+10.6p), while 19 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 171.5p and levelled at 145.5p (+5.7p).
In the rough ring 114 beef cows sold to 195.5p and averaged 132.5p (+5.8p), while 139 dairy cows peaked at 154.5p and levelled at 98.6p (-1.3p). Five bulls sold to 147.5p and averaged 111.7p (-3.1p).
There were also 1,936 prime lambs that sold to £105.80 and 250p to average 186.6p (+8.1p).
A larger show of 273 heavy ewes sold to £119.50 for Beltex and averaged £72.76, while 56 light ewes peaked at £80 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £36.25.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 241p (-3.1p), while six prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232p and levelled at 222p (-1p). Nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 144p and averaged 135p (+0.5p).
In the rough ring 30 beef cows averaged 125p (+5p), while 28 dairy cows levelled at 102p (+4p). A couple of bulls averaged 115p.
There were also 2114 prime lambs that sold to £116 and 263p to average 186.3p (+4p).
A large show of 850 heavy ewes sold to £156 for a Texel and averaged £81.29, while 828 light ewes peaked at £68 for Blackfaces and levelled at £46.26.
