MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 240p per kg and an average of 218.4p, while five prime bullocks peaked at 232p and levelled at 197p.
In the rough ring 115 beef cows averaged 118.6p and 74 dairy cows levelled at 96.1p. Ten bulls averaged125.3p.
The 13 dairy cattle forward were a poor show for quality that peaked at £1,450 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1,039.
The firm also had 170 beef-breeding cattle forward at its monthly sale when the top prices and averages were as follows: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2,450 (twice) and averaged £1,548.33 for 30; cows with calves £1,800 and £1,075 for 83; in-calf cows £1,020 and £768.88 for nine; bulling heifers £1,040 and £771.28 for 39; pedigree bulls to 2600gns for a Beef Shorthorn and averaged £1,639.17 for nine.
Wallets Marts sold 840 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 256.4p per kg to average £76.29 and 185.5p (+3.8p on the week).
The 213 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £108 for Texels and averaged 367.99, while 106 light/export-type ewes peaked at £66 for Blackfaces and levelled at £35.11.
