MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 75 store heifers in Newton Stewart on Friday to a top of 223p per kg and an average of 201.6p (+6.8p on the July sale), while 92 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 204.8p (+9.8p). Nineteen store, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 156p and averaged 138.7p (+14.3p).
The firm went on to sell 2,430 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 204.6p per kg to average 180p (-5.3p on the week).
The 599 heavy ewes forward sold to £138.50 for Texels and averaged £76.40, while 580 light/export-type ewes peaked at £98 for Lleyns and levelled at £39.82.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 34 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 246p and an average of 217p (-6p), while 17 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 228p (+10p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 225p and averaged 176p.
In the rough ring 57 beef cows sold to 167p and averaged 137p (+3p).
There were also 1,881 prime lambs that sold to £117 and 228p to average 199p (+12p).
The 740 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £113 for Beltex and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £87 for Cheviots and levelled at £53.
The firm also sold 26 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 249.5p and an average of 206.8p (+19p), while 23 prime bullocks peaked at 229.5p and levelled at 202.4p (-10.6p). Thirty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 231.5p and averaged 203.1p (+1.3p), while 34 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 191.5p and levelled at 163.1p (+17.5p).
In the rough ring 71 beef cows sold to 196.5p and averaged 128.4p (-4.1p), while 147 dairy cows peaked at 160.5p and levelled at 99.5p (+0.9p). Six bulls sold to 144.5p and averaged 118.3p (+6.6p).
There were also 3,134 prime lambs that sold to £112 and 250.8p to average 195.4p (+8.8p).
The 376 heavy ewes forward sold to £121.50 for Texels and averaged £76.90, while 106 light ewes peaked at £78.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £38.20.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 242p (+1p), while three prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 226p (+4p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 164p and averaged 118p (no comparison).
In the rough ring 49 beef cows averaged 122p (-3p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 102p (no change).
The firm also sold 2,864 prime lambs to a top of £110 and 234p to average 191p (+4.7p).
A very large show of cast sheep saw 1,065 heavy ewes sell to £150 for a Texel and average £79.06, while 901 light ewes peaked at £78 for Blackfaces and levelled at £37.
