C&D AUCTION Marts Ltd sold 64 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 236p per kg and an average of 192p (+1p on the fortnight), while 123 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.9p and levelled at 197.8p (-6.1p). Twenty-one store, B&W bullocks sold to 167.2p and averaged 132.3p (+2.3p), while 16 store bulls peaked at 258p and levelled at 220p (no comparison).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had a much poorer show of 1,365 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday when leaner types were much harder to cash. Top prices on the day were £93 per head and 205p per kg with the final average levelling at 174.5p (-5.5p on the week).
Cast sheep were also cheaper on the week with 275 heavy ewes selling to £103.50 for a Texel and averaging £66.80, while 287 light/export-type ewes peaked at £70 for Cheviots and levelled at £34.40.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 38 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 226p (+9p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 250p and levelled at 221p (-7p).
In the rough ring 28 beef cows sold to 159p and averaged 133p (-4p).
There were also 1321 prime lambs that sold to £96 and 216p to average 174p (-25p).
A large show of 886 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £101 for Bluefaced Leicesters and average £85, while light ewes peaked at £87 for Cheviots and levelled at £46.
The firm also sold 14 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 256.5p and an average of 220.6p (+13.8p), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 233.5p and levelled at 213p (+10.6p). Sixty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 232.5p and averaged 195.2p (-7.9p), while 25 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 175.5p and levelled at 157.6p (-5.5p).
In the rough ring 148 beef cows sold to 201.5p and averaged 138.4p (+10p), while 183 dairy cows peaked at 164.5p and levelled at 105.2p (+5.7p). Ten bulls sold to 179.5p and averaged 129.8p (+11.5p).
There were also 1,253 prime lambs that sold to £110 and 241.4p to average 182.7p (-12.6p).
A modest show of cast sheep saw 211 heavy ewes sell to £104.50 for Texels and average £69.43, while 56 light ewes peaked at £67.50 for Jacobs and levelled at £27.80.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 25 cast beef cows in Lanark yesterday to average 126p (+4p), while 40 dairy cows levelled at 105p (+3p).
There was also a large show of 2758 prime lambs that sold to £103 and 222p to average 174p (-17p).
The 222 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £144 for a Texel and averaged £72.64, while 397 light ewes peaked at £66 for Cheviots and levelled at £72.64.
