SIR Sandy Crombie, the former chief executive of Standard Life, has become chairman of Edinburgh tech start-up Amiqus.

The City veteran, who sits on the Royal Bank of Scotland board, described Amiqus as “one of the most promising tech start-ups in Scotland”.

The company’s first product, Amiqus ID, which provides encrypted online compliance checks that make it easier for clients to access a lawyer or accountant, was launched last year. Its success since then has allowed Amiqus, founded by entrepreneur Callum Murray in 2015, to double its headcount to 12.

Mr Murray said: “We’re honoured to welcome Sir Sandy to our board. Sir Sandy’s experience, networks and thorough understanding of the business and professional services landscape will be invaluable for the company as we enter our next phase of growth.”

Sir Sandy noted: “I’ve known Callum for a number of years and have been impressed by Amiqus’ rapid move from an early stage concept to a revenue-generating business.”
