CONSTRUCTION and infrastructure business Robertson Group has revealed another year of record turnover, which led pre-tax profits to increase by more than a fifth, to £26 million.

The Elgin-based company, which operates 21 infrastructure businesses across the UK, saw revenue climb 28 per cent to £580m in the year to March 31.

This included a 15 per cent increase in turnover south of the Border, to £114m. The group also said its order book was in its strongest ever position, at £2.3 billion.

Staff numbers increased by 300 over the year to 2,200, with a further 110 positions expected to be created this year.

Executive chairman Bill Robertson, said: “We are delighted to have the visibility, capability and strong capital base from which to deliver high-quality projects and services to our existing and potential clients.”

The group added one new business in the year, concentrating on the East of Scotland.

Record growth in construction in the regions was assisted by the delivery of projects from two key public sector frameworks – hub East Central Scotland and Scape.

Its Major Projects division is also delivering three major projects with a total value of more than £400m in the North of Scotland.

These includes a state-of-the-art distillery and visitor centre for Edrington Group at The Macallan, and a £62m hospital in Kirkwall for NHS Orkney.

The Robertson Partnership Homes business also saw major success, having delivered 632 homes this year. The business has secured contracts to deliver over 3,000 homes over the next five years in Scotland.
