A FIFE company is celebrating its part in new movie Paddington 2, but those behind the film are keeping the specific role of the two vintage padlocks it has supplied under their hats.
Cupar-based Scaramanga’s latest movie role comes hard on the heels of its part in Victoria & Abdul, for which it supplied two of its vintage travel trunks, and a range of authentic Indian boxes, tins and leather journals.
Paddington 2, starring Hugh Bonneville as Mr Brown and Hugh Grant as celebrity Phoenix Buchanan and released in the UK today, features the bear and the Browns turning into sleuths after a unique pop-up book he saves up to buy for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday is stolen from Mr Gruber’s antique shop.
Scaramanga said the role of its padlocks “is being kept a closely-guarded secret”.
The new role for the Fife vintage specialist’s products came about when its owner, Carl Morenikeji, called the props buyer about another project and she mentioned she was looking for two antique padlocks for Paddington 2.
Mr Morenikeji said: “We’re overjoyed to have seen our products used in seven major movies in just five years and to have two appear in only two months.”
Scaramanga said Mr Morenikeji and his team were “looking forward to seeing what role their antique padlocks play in the family film”.
Vintage and antique padlocks supplied by Scaramanga were used in The Hobbit, Pan and Celebrity Big Brother 2016.
The firm’s other movie props roles have included 2014 Disney film Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie, for which it supplied 10 medieval-looking pieces, and 2012 Tim Burton movie Dark Shadows, for which it provided trunks for the Liverpool Docks scenes.
Scaramanga has also been used as a supplier of vintage props for television shows including Peaky Blinders, Strictly Come Dancing, Jericho, Hollyoaks and 60 Minute Makeover.
Mr Morenikeji founded Scaramanga 11 years ago, naming the business after a character played by Christopher Lee in James Bond movie ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’.
