MACKIE’S at Taypack has exported 20 container-loads of crisps to Japan in the last two months, beating its target.

The joint venture between Aberdeenshire-based Mackie’s of Scotland and the Taylor family’s Perthshire potato farming business said it had sent a total of 2.5 million packets of crisps to Asia over the last 12 months.

It cited new distribution across markets such as Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea, as well as continuing sales to the likes of China and Singapore.

James Taylor, commercial director at Mackie’s of Taypack, said: “Asia has proved to be a key market for our export sales and, although China was historically our biggest market outside of the United Kingdom, we are delighted that Japan has now taken first place and appears to be going from strength to strength.”

Mackie’s at Taypack sells its Scottish crisps to 28 countries worldwide, with its most recent additions being Afghanistan and Pakistan.
