Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 8 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1269.85 per head and 234p per kg to average £1231.25 and 230.1p, while a couple of prime Ayrshire bullocks levelled at £917.63 and 157.5p.

In the rough ring 49 beef cows sold to £1090 and 170p to average 145.2p, while 62 dairy cows peaked at £1270 and 146.5p to level at 116.1p. Nine bulls sold to £1490 and 193.5p to average 135.9p, while 5 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1070 and 187.7p to level at 167.4p.

The firm also had 20 dairy cattle forward that incorporated a show and sale of pedigree Friesians that sold to 1300gns for the champion cow and averaged £898.80 for 5, a bull fetched £1680 and 4 stirks averaged £529. Ten commercial dairy cattle peaked at £1500 for a Friesian calved heifer and levelled at £1171.

Wallets Marts sold 224 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £90 per head and 204.5p per kg to average £73.79 and 168.8p (+10.2p on the week).

There were also 183 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £120 for Beltex and £66.50 for Blackfaces.
