Wallets Marts had a small show of store cattle in Castle Douglas on Monday when 20 heifers sold to a top of £760 per head and 242p per kg to average £703 and 223.5p, while 17 bullocks peaked at £1010 and 253.6p to level at £862 and 234.9p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 17 prime cattle forward in Ayr yesterday that included 12 from the Ayrshire Young Farmers Club (YFC) rally at the weekend. Topping the YFC trade at £1569.50 was a Limousin bullock from Lauren McFadzean, Barneil, Kirkmichael. Ten YFC bullocks averaged £1339.58 or 225.1p per kg, while a couple of YFC heifers levelled at £1396.10 and 233.7p. Three commercial prime bullocks averaged £1073.63 and176p, while a couple of commercial heifers levelled at £1136.85 and 193.5p.
In the rough ring 54 beef cows sold to £1100 and 163.6p to average 138p, while 93 dairy cattle peaked at £1360 and 150.3p to level at 109.8p. Twenty clean OTM cattle sold to £1140 and 193.2p to average 142.5p.
A small, plain show of 11 dairy cattle comprising 4 in-milk, 3 in-calf Ayrshire heifers and 4 Ayrshire heifer stirks sold to £1250 for a second-calved Holstein Friesian.
