MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 55 store heifers in Newton Stewart on Friday to a top of £1,150 per head and 236p per kg to average £885.91 and 204.7p, while 64 store beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1,210 and 251.4p to level at £924.76 and 208.4p. Twenty-two store, B&W bullocks sold to £800 and 154p to average £724.32 and 148.3p.

C&D Auction Marts ltd sold 2,451 Scotch Mule ewe lambs at their second sale in Dumfries on Saturday to a top of £106 and an average of £85 (+£6.06 on the year). A modest show of 680 Blackface ewe lambs peaked at £65 and levelled at £49.07 (+20p).

Wallets Marts sold 73 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1,170 and 217p to average £912 and 200p, while 55 store bullocks peaked at £1,190 and 228.3p to level at £914.55 and 210p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,911 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 per head and 196.7p per kg to average 173.3p (+2.1p on the week). The auctioneers report that heavier lambs that were dirty below and all weights of Mule lambs were harder to cash, especially if they handled on the lean side.

A large show of 958 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £92.50 for Texels and average £68.18, while light ewes peaked at 358 for Blackfaces and levelled at 332.83.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 51 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 267p and an average of 233p (-2p), while 15 prime bullocks peaked at 254p and levelled at 234p (+1p).

In the rough ring 51 beef cows sold to £1,654 and 239p to average 156p (+5p).

There were also 1,114 prime lambs that sold to £100 and 218.4p to average 177p (-4p).

The 474 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £93 for Texels and average £73, while light ewes peaked at £69 for Cheviots and levelled at £40.

The firm also sold seven prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 237.5p and an average of 208.2p (+17.6p), while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 247.5p and levelled at 202.9p (+21.3p). Ten prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 173.5p and averaged 162.4p (+6.1p). Thirty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 239.5p and averaged 204.4p (+6.2p), while 42 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 188.5p and levelled at 154.1p (-0.2p).

In the rough ring 129 beef cows sold to 218.5p and averaged 145.4p (+6.2p), while 253 dairy cows peaked at 173.5p and levelled at 112.6p (+2.6p). Nine bulls sold to 146.5p and averaged 129.3p (-5p).

There were also 1,973 prime lambs that sold to £103.80 and 266.2p to average 182p (+2p).

The 115 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £93.50 for texels and averaged £68.50, while 37 light ewes peaked at £69.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £40.74.
