HARRISON & Hetherington Ltd had a catalogued entry of 2,000 store lambs in St Boswells on Thursday. Top prices and averages for selected breeds: Suffolks to £70 and averaged £59.80; Texels £69 and £60.50; Mules £62 and £56; Cheviots £54 and £47.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 69 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1,220 per head and 220.3p per kg to average £801.81 and 196.7p (no change on the week), while 122 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1,130 and 281.9p to level at £817.91 and 202.4p (+1.2p). Eighty-two store, B&W bullocks sold to £815 and 155.5p to average £536.95 and 138.3p (-0.4p).
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 3,734 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £109 per head and 275p per kg to average 175.1p (+9.4p).
Another large show of 5902 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £154 for Texels and average £74.96 (+£10.22), while light/export-type ewes peaked at £79 for Lleyns and levelled at £35.81 (+£7.93). Rams sold to £138 for a Texel and averaged £82.15.
