MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 234p per kg and an average of 225p.

In the rough ring 63 beef cows averaged 114.3p and 116 dairy cows levelled at 84.3p. Nine bulls averaged 104.3p and 12 clean OTM cattle levelled at 144.2p.

A small offering of seven dairy cattle were very easy to cash selling to £1,950 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaging £1,520.

Wallets Marts sold 959 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £106 per head and 251.8p per kg to average £73.41 and 164p (-4.9p on the week).

A plainer show of cast sheep looked slightly sharper on the week with 158 heavy ewes selling to £108 for Texels and averaging £56.86, while 248 light/export-type ewes peaked at £66.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £30.95.

The GDT (Global Dairy Trade) Price Index eased back 3.4 per cent at yesterday's trading event for dairy products - the fourth consecutive fall in prices. Among the principal movers were skim milk powder that fell by 6.5 per cent, followed by butter that was back 5.9 per cent and cheddar that eased 4.2 per cent.
