A FREE on-farm meeting - hosted by AHDB (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board) and Moir Environment - will advise farmers on how to get the fullest possible value from muck and slurry.
The event will be held on December 14 on Coffin Farm, near Stranraer by kind permission of Andrew McWilliam.
The AHDB Dairy Knowledge Exchange Manager said: "Our data tells us that muck is worth £9.20/tonne and a cubic metre of slurry has a value of £3.20 in NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potassium) alone. These products have real financial value for the farm, but only if they are stored and used correctly.
"This event aims to make sure farmers have the right tools they need to ensure they are getting the most out of their muck and slurry, for example through using AHDB's Slurry Wizard which allows them to calculate their volume of slurry and storage capacity."
Lunch will be provided but to help with catering attendees should book a place by calling 01904 771216 or emailing ke.events@ahdb.org.uk
* Meanwhile, after more than two years of selling milk at £1 or less for 4 pints, Morrisons recently increased the shelf price of its own-label milk to £1.10/4 pints.
This has broken the deadlock on price increases in the major supermarkets, where prices have been at £1 or lower for four pints since March 2015.
Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose have all followed Morrisons' lead, matching the increase on shelf prices, leaving only the hard discounters pricing milk at £1 for four pints.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
