Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 251p per kg and an average of 238.3p (-2.1p on the week), while 10 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 225.2p (-1.1p). Ten prime, B&W bullocks sold to 161.5p and averaged 149.4p (+2.4p).

In the rough ring 34 beef cows averaged 116p (-2p) and 50 dairy cows levelled at 90p (no change).

The firm also sold 1933 prime lambs to a top of £100 per head and 223.9p per kg to average 178.9p (-1.5p).

The 206 cast ewes forward sold to £156.50 for a Texel and averaged £81.54, while 386 light/export-type ewes peaked at £67.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £43.73.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2428 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday that sold to £92 and 214.6p to average 178.8p (-2.1p). The auctioneer reports that there was a higher percentage of Blackface and Mule lambs forward that contributed to the overall average being less on the week.

There were also 476 cast sheep forward that met a similar trade to last week with heavy ewes selling to £123.50 for a pen of Texels and averaging £63.06, while light ewes peaked at £64 for a pen of Blackfaces and averaged £34.21.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 36 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 268p and an average of 226p (-5p), while 17 prime bullocks peaked at 251p and levelled at 220p (+2p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 139p and averaged 131p (no comparison).

In the rough ring 85 beef cows sold to 191p and averaged 131p (-13p).

There were also 2059 prime lambs that sold to 230p and averaged 181.6p (-0.2p).

A nice show of 663 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £117 for Texels and average £81. while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £45.

The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 241.5p and an average of 165.2p (-40.6p), while 3 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 209.2p (-8.6p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 169.5p and averaged 168p (+39.2p). Thirty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 235.5p and averaged 195.5p (+1.3p), while 33 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 219.5p and levelled at 164.2p (+6.5p).

In the rough ring 146 beef cows sold to 216.5p and averaged 135.7p (-10.1p), while 238 dairy cows peaked at 156.5p and levelled at 96.9p (+2.1p). Five bulls sold to 158.5p and averaged 113.9p (+15.3p).

There were also 2827 prime lambs forward that sold to £109.80 and 246.8p to average 188.6p (+4.1p).

A small show of 121 heavy cast ewes sold to £113.50 for Texels and averaged £66.91, while 32 light ewes peaked at £39.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £30.20.
