C&D Auction Marts had a restricted entry of store cattle at their fortnightly sale in Dumfries yesterday due to the wintry conditions. Sixty-seven heifers sold to 248.1p per kg and averaged 200.3p (+7.3p on the fortnight), while 107 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 209.2p (-8.6p). Twenty-one store, B&W bullocks sold to 180p and averaged 142.3p (-16p), while 12 store bulls peaked at 264p and levelled at 241.8p (+18.8p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 820 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 per head and 211.1p per kg to average 191.1p (+1.3p on the week).

There were also 568 cast sheep forward when all classes maintained recent rates, despite being a poorer show for quality, with heavy ewes averaging £69.08 and light/export-type ewes levelling at £46.64.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 32 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 217p (-3p), while 17 prime bullocks peaked at 248p and levelled at 218p (-5p).

In the rough ring 52 beef cows sold to 179p and averaged 144p (+4p).

There were also 882 prime hoggs that sold to £117 and 226.6p to average 187p (+2p).

A nice show of 327 cast sheep saw heavy ewes average £81 and light ewes level at £47.

The firm also sold 19 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 242.5p and an average of 199.8p (+18.9p), while 22 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 206.7p (+3.3p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 152.5p and averaged 150.2p (-12.8p). Thirty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 226.5p and averaged 185.9p (-9.9p), while 47 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 176.5p and levelled at 153.1p (-2.1p).

In the rough ring 155 beef cows sold to 212.5p and averaged 141p (+2.3p), while 211 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 105.7p (+7.3p). Seven bulls sold to 135.5p and averaged 116.1p (-2.6p).

There were also 2051 prime hoggs forward that sold to £100 per head and 246.8p per kg to average 188.3p (+1.2p).

A modest offering of 107 heavy cast ewes averaged £68.40 and 36 light ewes levelled at £45.77.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 239.1p (+2.8p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232p and levelled at 216p (no change). Nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 161.5p and averaged 151.9p 9+4.3p).

In the rough ring 18 beef cows averaged 128p (-2p) and 52 dairy cows level at 100p (-1p).

There were also 1252 prime hoggs forward that sold to £107 and 237.8p to average 193.2p (+9.8p).

The 146 heavy cast ewes forward averaged £79.66 and 262 light ewes levelled at £53.63.
