WALLETS Marts sold 33 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1,110 per head and 221.4p per kg to average £773.61 and 206.6p, while 91 store bullocks peaked at £1,245 and 260.9p to level at £901.81 and 227.8p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1350 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 per head and 235.7p per kg to average 194.3p (+3.2p on the week and 25.2p on the corresponding sale last year).
There were also 759 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £147.50 for a pen of Texels and averaged £77.14, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £64.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £45.64.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 47 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 222p (+5p), while 18 prime bullocks peaked at 253p and also levelled at 222p (+4p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 220p and averaged 211p.
In the rough ring 73 beef cows sold to £1,489 and 193p to average 138p (-6p).
There were also 965 prime hoggs that sold to £114 and 247.5p to average £88 and 200.6p (+13.6p).
A smaller show of 377 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £107 for Suffolk crosses and average £82, while light ewes peaked at £89 for Cheviots and levelled at £49.
The firm also sold 16 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 241.5p and an average of 211.6p (+11.8p), while 30 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232.5p and levelled at 205p (-1.7p). Five prime, dairy-bred bullocks peaked at 156.5p and averaged 150.5p (+0.3p). Sixteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.6p and averaged 193.1p (+7.2p), while 35 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 157.5p (+4.4p).
In the rough ring 85 beef cows sold to 209.5p and averaged 139.9p (-1.1p), while 207 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 111.3p (+5.6p). Thirteen bulls sold to 157.5p and averaged 126.8p (+10.7p).
There were also 1933 prime hoggs that sold to £116.80 and 304.9p to average 204.3p (+16p).
The 139 heavy ewes forward sold to £123 for Texels and averaged £73.33, while 49 light ewes peaked at £87.5o for Cheviots and levelled at £45.37.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 238.4p (-0.3p), while six prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 218.1p (+1.4p). Nine prime B&W bullocks sold to 149.5p and averaged 140.7p (-3.2p).
In the rough ring 35 beef cows averaged 130p (+2p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 101p (+1p).
There were also 1,737 prime hoggs that sold to £109.56 and 246.4p to average 194.5p (+1.3p).
