Wallets Marts sold 72 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1170 per head and 259.3p per kg to average £771.25 and 220.4p (+8.5p on the fortnight), while 220 store bullocks peaked at £1380 and 275.5p to level at £934.25 and 232.3p (+4.2p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2315 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £113 per head and 237.8p per kg to average of 206.8p (-2.1p on the week). Included in that overall average were 846 Blackfaces that peaked at 216.3p and levelled at 200.9p.

There were also 539 cast sheep forward when plainer ewes were harder to cash, while other types met a similar trade to last week. Heavy ewes sold to £115.50 for Texels and averaged £71.11, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £63.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £37.15.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 41 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 221p (+1p), while 27 prime bullocks peaked at 249p and levelled at 219p (no change on the week).

In the rough ring 53 beef cows sold to 201p and averaged 141p (+1p).

There were also 1226 prime hoggs that sold to £124 and 288.4p to average 205.7p (+1.7p).

A nice show of 467 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £119 for Texels and average £84, while light ewes peaked at £89 for Cheviots and levelled at £51.

The firm also sold 16 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 213.2p (+11.2p), while 20 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232.5p and levelled at 219.1p (+15.8p). Forty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 242.5p and averaged 198.2p (+2.1p), while 43 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 185.5p and levelled at 158.2p (-8.1p).

In the rough ring 70 beef cows sold to 199.5p and averaged 141.7p (-2.7p), while 209 dairy cows peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 112.5p (-6.2p).

There were also 1772 prime hoggs forward that sold to £123.80 and 216.1p to average 209.8p (-6.1p).

A small show of 56 heavy cast ewes sold to £115.50 for Suffolks and averaged £84.60, while 70 light ewes peaked at £58.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £29.90.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 238.1p (-3.6p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232p and averaged 211.5p (+3.4p). Three prime B&W bullocks sold to 139.5p and averaged 134.5p (-7.2p).

In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 130p (-2p) and 40 dairy cows levelled at 110p (-3p).

The firm also sold 2485 prime hoggs to a top of £132.50 and 279.5p to average 207.3p (+1.5p).
