Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 36 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 249.5p per kg and an average of 228.6p (+11.6p on the fortnight), while 61 store bullocks peaked at 276.3p and levelled at 237.9p (+0.4p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1433.85 per head and 241p per kg to average £1298.43 and 233p.
There was a better show for quality in the rough ring that met a firmer trade on the week with 53 beef cows selling to £1590 and 181.7p for the same cow and averaging 132.8p, while 99 dairy cows peaked at £1180 and 155.2p to level at 115.8p. Five bulls sold to £1540 and 157.1p to average 136.1p, while 25 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1370 and 209.1p to level at 161.9p.
There were only 4 dairy cattle presented at the firm's weekly sale that sold to £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1567.50.
The monthly sale of beef-breeding cattle was also a smaller show than usual when the 15 in-calf heifers on offer sold to £1400 and averaged £1232.86, while 40 bulling heifers peaked at £1300 and levelled at £1030.
