C&D Auction Marts held their annual spring show and sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday The best single bullock, a 10-month-old Limousin, came from Herries Farms and went on to sell for £1110, while the best pen of bullocks, also 10-month-old Limousins, came from Lantonside and fetched £1100.

Out-with the show, 124 heifers sold to 297p per kg and averaged 225p (+25.6p on the fortnight), while 236 bullocks peaked at 293.3p and levelled at 220.8p (-12.5p). Thirty-two B&W bullocks sold to 165p and averaged 136p (-1.4p), while 17 store bulls peaked at 264.2p and levelled at 213p (+9.6p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1856 prime hoggs forward at Ayr yesterday that sold to £125 per head and 285.7p per kg to average 232.7p (+12p on the week and +66.8p on the corresponding sale last year).

There were also 620 cast sheep when heavy ewes sold to £170 for Texels and averaged £92.84, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £84.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £60.11.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 43 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 263p and an average of 230p (+14p), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 255p and levelled at 223p (+9p).

In the rough ring 22 beef cows sold to £1445 per head and 177p per kg to average 146p (-1.7p).

There were also 969 prime hoggs that sold to £148 and 304.9p to average 237p (+25p).

A modest show of 205 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £127 for Texels and average £99, while light ewes peaked at £119 for Cheviots and levelled at £73.

The firm also sold 27 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 253.5p and an average of 210p (+5.5p), while 31 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 257.5p and levelled at 212.9p (+1.9p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 155.5p and averaged 146.2p (+0.7p). Fifty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 249.5p and averaged 206.6p (+22.1p), while 45 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 185.5p and levelled at 163.2p (+8.7p).

In the rough ring 75 beef cows sold to 239.5p and averaged 154.6p (+10.5p), while 162 dairy cows peaked at 181.5p and levelled at 114.4p (+0.5p).

There were also 1739 prime hoggs that sold to £136.80 and 328.4p to average 256.1p (+27.6p).

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 257p and an average of 239.8p (+4.6p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 247p and levelled at 228.8p (+1p). Twelve prime, B&W bullocks sold to 178p and averaged 160.3p (+22.7p).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 132p (-1p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 112p (-1p).

The firm also sold 3037 prime hoggs to a top of £130 and 306p to average 236.9p (+19.3p).
